DFID has committed approximately £30 million to Serbia since 2001. In 2008, we are currently spending approximately £3 million a year to support essential reforms across government.

Based in the British Embassy in Belgrade, we work increasingly closely with Foreign Office colleagues to deliver a common set of UK objectives relating to Serbia’s European integration, its increasing prosperity and its improved democratic governance.

Consistent with DFID’s Western Balkans Regional Assistance Plan, the overall purpose of our Serbian programme is to support, through technical assistance and collaboration with other donors, the Serbian government on:

  • Aid effectiveness and EU integration
  • Reform of the social welfare system
  • Improving governance
  • Conflict prevention

The DFID programme in Serbia is due to close in December 2010.
