Millennium Development Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women

Areas of research include:

• impact of new technologies on position of women in society
• empowering women to engage with political processes
• increasing number of girls who complete primary and secondary education

Safer schools for girls in Africa are now feasible through a range of new strategies to counteract abuse, and improve participation and achievement.

A lightweight plough has enabled women to till their fields with donkeys which are easier to handle and cheaper to maintain than traditional pairs of oxen.
