Team: Corporate Delivery Unit (CDU):
Background
DFID Nepal is responsible for managing the British Government’s contribution
to development in Nepal and its Interim Country Assistance Plan (CAP) governs
our assistance to Nepal.
The central responsibility of the CDU is to oversee and ensure the effective
management and implementation of the DFID Nepal programme in compliance with
DFID systems and best practice (quality assurance and lesson learning), and
support the design and implementation of the Interim CAP. In addition, the CDU
is responsible for coordinating and responding to corporate reporting/briefing
requirements to very short deadlines e.g. Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial
correspondence and briefings. The Unit also supports the development and
implementation of appropriate aid delivery mechanisms, and DFID’s contribution
to improve donor aid effectiveness working with Government and donors. The Head
of CDU also oversees DFID’s communication strategy and associated action plans
that the Communication Manager will manage.

Purpose of the Job:
To lead the development, implementation and monitoring of a Communication
Strategy and Action Plan for DFID covering internal and external communications.
Support the promotion of an informed public debate around development, poverty
and inclusion in Nepal. In liaison with Head, CDU provide first good draft
briefs and manage the communications grid; help DFID Nepal communicate impact
and lesson learning effectively.
Main Duties
Strategy and Action Plan
- In liaison with the Head CDU, Deputy Head, DFID Nepal Team Leaders and Asia
Division Communications specialist, lead the DFIDN Communications Strategy and
Action Plan.
- Lead on the promotion of “ownership” within DFIDN and its
projects and programmes of the Action Plan and monitor/report on its
implementation.
Communications
- Manage all corporate communications work
- Lead on the media strategy and
production of all DFID Nepal communications materials including, press releases,
country plans, Annual Report, communication products for DFID’s website,
corporate reporting inputs
- Coordinate the production of timely responses to
public enquiries
- Work with DFID projects and programmes to advise and help
develop consistent communications.
- Pro-actively manage the DFIDN
communications team site
- Lead DFID’s engagement with the Nepali media.
- Pro-actively and in liaison with the Deputy Head and DFID teams, produce and
maintain, on a weekly basis, agreed media lines.
- Manage the DFID Nepal
Resource Centre to a minimum level and contracts on key communication work
- Influencing media and range of partners on DFID messages etc.
Management Responsibilities
The post holder will line manage a Programme Officer who works 50% on
Communications. He/She will work closely with the Head CDU, Deputy Head, and the
DFID teams.
Line Management:
The post holder will report to the Head, CDU and the Deputy
Head of DFIDN will be the Quality Assurer.
Qualification and experience
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a reputed university in the field of
communications or minimum 5 years or more of solid communication experience and
knowledge
- Experience of Development work desirable
- Very good command of both
Nepali and English Language – written and spoken
- Ability to write very good
quality briefings, reports etc
- Good experience and understanding of working
with the media
