Douglas AlexanderDouglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development, took part in a live webchat on the 10 Downing Street website on 7 May.

During the session, the Secretary of State answered questions on a number of issues, including the progress being made in reaching the Millennium Development Goals, especially the drive to expand educational opportunities and reduce the number of women dying in childbirth.

He also responded to enquiries about the Government's efforts to fight diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS, and how the UK is tackling climate change in Africa.

In the week that saw the launch of the Business Call to Action, the Secretary of State also spoke about the key role the private sector can play in boosting the economies of poor countries.
