Book now! New issue of Developments takes a look at tourism
November
22, 2004
Developments is a free quarterly magazine produced by DFID to increase awareness of development issues. It currently has a circulation of over 50,000 - up from 38,000 last year - and is read by members of the public, MPs, NGOs, academics and the development community in general.
The latest issue asks whether the global mega-business that is modern tourism is making enough of a contribution to the fight against poverty. Tourism is the main money earner for a third of developing nations, a powerful engine driving revenue, investment and jobs.
But are those benefits cancelled out by the impact on the environment and local communities?
Take a free round-the-world trip with Developments as it visits tourism workers in the Gambia, Gran Canaria, Bolivia and Sudan to find out how this global industry really affects the poor.
