National volunteering week - DFID's first young volunteers going on the Platform2 adventure

DFID's new volunteering programme for young adults, Platform2, saw the
departure of its first 18 volunteers just two weeks ago to Ghana and South
Africa.

My name is Zina Lewis I am 22, from East London and will be joining a team of volunteers to visit the Afadjato Agumatasa project in the district of Hohoe in Ghana.
I found out about the opportunity through an email from a friend asking for young people aged 18 – 25 year olds to volunteer in developing countries for a 10 week period. I had wanted to volunteer overseas for a long time but could never afford to so the fact that the trip is fully sponsored was a huge relief and a great incentive to pursue the opportunity further.
The process of applying was really quick, within a week of sending my interest and requesting further info I had received an application pack, and had my place confirmed within two weeks. After a week of knowing I had been accepted on to the programme, I had all the information I needed to get the ball rolling with applying for a VISA and getting my injections. Read more...
