Water and sanitation - Ethiopia

DFID is contributing to the government of Ethiopia’s efforts to meet the water and sanitation MDG targets through a number of financial instruments, including the Protection of Basic Services Grant and the Productive Safety Nets Programme. DFID Ethiopia is developing a £100 million investment programme, covering the period 2007 – 2011 to support the sector. This will increase access to water and sanitation for around six million poor people, and will be delivered through ongoing multi-national projects.

DFID is also actively supporting the EU Water Initiative Country Dialogue in Ethiopia, aimed at increasing the level of funding for water and sanitation as well as providing a platform for better governance within the sector.
