Aid relationships
Overview
Donor behaviour plays a central role in the effectiveness of aid. The aid effectiveness indicators agreed at the
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD's) Development
Assistance Committee (DAC) High Level Forum in March 2005 have a number of implications for the relationship between donors and recipients, including the importance of aid being country-owned, aligned with national priorities such as those in Poverty Reduction Strategies, harmonised with other donors, more predictable, less tied to externally imposed policy conditions, and more accountable both to developing country governments and their people.
DFID approach
DFID’s Development Effectiveness Group is helping to review and develop thinking on evidence, policy, best practice and guidance. Substantial work has already been conducted on different aspects of aid relationships. For further reading,
