DFID’s current phase of funding for the Global School Partnerships (GSP) programme is due to end this year (31 March 2012).

DFID is committed to supporting partnership between schools in the UK and developing countries. In July this year the Secretary of State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell, stated that DFID’s “excellent work on school linking will continue,” and the Department is now looking at how this can be done to ensure a high quality service to schools that also represents value for money for the UK taxpayer.

DFID will be making further announcements about the continuation of school linking in due course and will ensure all schools partnered through GSP are fully informed about how this will impact on their partnership.

Schools are advised to refer to British Council Schools Online (previously Global Gateway) in order to get up to date information about new sources of funding.

Over 3,900 partnerships have been established (November 2011) since the programme started in 2003 between schools in the UK and schools in 57 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The programme is funded by Ukaid from the Department for International Development and managed by a consortium of the British Council, Cambridge Education Foundation, UK One World Linking Association, and VSO.
