About DFID photograph

Who DFID Works With

The Millennium Development Goals represent a united international commitment to reduce poverty by 2015. Achieving the Goals will depend upon a coherent international approach, with agreed policies to support development and effective collaboration between institutions and nations.

DFID attaches great importance to its role within this system. In addition to its work as a bilateral donor to individual countries, 38% of total DFID development assistance funding goes through multilateral agencies. Effective engagement of all these parts of the international system is needed if the Millennium Development Goals are to be met.

Strengthening the international system means ensuring that the policies and programmes of all parts of the system work coherently in helping to bring about poverty reduction. This involves international institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation, and developed country groupings such as the European Union (EU).

If you'd like to find out more about how DFID works with other organisations in reducing poverty around the world, please contact our public enquiry point by email or by phone on 0845 300 4100 (local call rate from within the UK) or +44 1355 84 3132 (from outside the UK).
