Development Awareness Fund Mini-Grants Scheme

Mini Grants Scheme

Introduction

The Mini Grants Scheme is aimed at organisations or networks with an interest in development education work in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales who want to undertake 1-3 year projects which seek to raise awareness and understanding:

  • of international development issues
  • of our global interdependence and
  • of the need for international development.

Current Statues of the Mini Grants Scheme

We are currently in the design stage for a replacement funding mechanism following consultations with key stakeholders. It will again be for not-for-profit organizations that are seeking funding to raise public awareness and understanding of global poverty. But it will not be for work with the formal education system. Formal education support will be provided under new education programmes developed for each nation. More information will appear on our website in due course.

Management

The Mini Grants Scheme is managed on behalf of DFID by managing agents in each region of the UK,

  • Development Education Association (DEA) in England
  • Centre for Global Education in Northern Ireland
  • International Development Education Association of Scotland (IDEAS) in Scotland
  • Cyfanfyd in Wales.

Fund size

Funding allocations are decided through an annual competitive process, which is managed by DFID’s Mini Grant managing agents.  DFID's contribution to a project will be a minimum grant of £1,000 and a maximum grant of £10,000 per year for up to 3 years.

Guidelines

The guidelines for the Development Awareness Fund Mini-Grants Scheme 2010/2011 are being considered and will be published soon.
