The Fast Stream

Each year, DFID recruits a small number of candidates through the general Fast Stream. It should be borne in mind, though, that the Fast Stream is a recruitment scheme run on behalf of the entire Civil Service and that although successful candidates will be asked to state a preference, they may be assigned to any department.

Candidates who do join DFID do so at Grade B1 (D) level (lower middle management level). DFID offers a structured programme of postings and learning designed to prepare fast streamers for promotion to more senior management positions (Band A) within four to five years.

To be eligible for the Fast Stream, you should have a least a 2:2 in any degree discipline and, generally, be a UK national.
