The Wildlife Conservation Society and its Guatemalan partners believe that conservation and sustainable management of the natural and cultural patrimony of the Maya Biosphere Reserve in the Petén, Guatemala is essential to generate long term social, political, economic, and environmental benefits for local residents, the people of Guatemala, and the global community. To achieve this vision, the project will build on our long-term commitment to the Petén by strengthening and consolidating local capacity to create and manage representative, accountable, transparent and effective institutions responsible the management of the natural and cultural resources of the last intact areas of the Petén.
