GPAF review notice

Recently DFID undertook an internal review to consider what progress has been achieved in the first year of the GPAF.  The review found that it’s been a positive first year with 51 grants awarded that will help over 6 million people in countries across Africa and Asia.  Following consultation and interviews with key stakeholders, the review also identified certain measures that would further improve the impact of the GPAF to deliver results through a range of organisations.  These are as follows:

  • All GPAF applicants to both Windows will be able to submit applications that either trial innovative approaches to poverty reduction or use tried and tested approaches to reduce poverty.
  • The Innovation Window, which is for small organisations, will have a primary objective of supporting small not-for-profit organisations to reduce poverty at the community level.  The Window will be renamed and although applications with innovative approaches will be welcomed this will not be a requirement.
  • Small organisations eligible for what was the Innovation Window will be defined as UK-based non-governmental, not-for-profit groups and organisations with an average annual income of less than £1 million for the past three years.
  • In order to support new and important work from a range of organisations, including those who may not have worked with DFID before, we will provide some additional support to applicants.

These changes should help small and large organisations to do what they do best, whether innovating or delivering projects that achieve real results.  This is part of DFID’s efforts to provide support to a diverse range of organisations reducing poverty in the developing world.  More details about these changes will be made available on this webpage shortly.
