This funding is allocated in response to specific emergencies, to alleviate the adverse humanitarian effects of natural disasters (for example, drought, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, storms, epidemics) and man-made disasters (for example wars, conflict, famine, technological, environmental, social).
It is for not-for-profit organisations, United Nations agencies and the Red Cross Movement. Details of the funding process and expected good practice can be found in the Humanitarian Funding Guidelines for NGOs. These guidelines outline the need for monitoring, evaluation and accountability activities to be included in proposals and budgets. This highlights our support for the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) principles of accountability.
