Government Departments and other sources of advice

Advice for UK businesses working in developing countries is available from a number of sources:

With professional advisers both within the UK and across more than 100 international markets, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy by providing trade support (including support for winning aid funded business), and assists overseas companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) facilities are built around a dynamic and competitive UK economy by: creating the conditions for business success; promoting innovation, enterprise and science; and giving everyone the skills and opportunities to succeed. As trade is of immense importance to developing countries and the UK alike, the government brings trade policy and development policy together in the joint DFID/BIS Trade Policy Unit (TPU).

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is responsible for promoting Britain's interests overseas. One of the services provided by FCO is the Prosperity Fund which promotes sustainable growth in selected countries.

The Partnerships Team has been established to championmore effective ways of working with business within Number 10 Downing Street and Cabinet Office.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) provides useful information, funding and support to business.

UK Export Finance is the UK's export credit agency that can provide government assistance to exporters and investors in the form of insurance or guarantees on bank loans.

Enterprise Europe Network provides support to small businesses, including advice on international expansions.

The UK National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises provides voluntary principles and standards that the UK government encourages UK businesses to comply with wherever they trade or operate and provides support for complaints.

The British Business Club is a partnership between UKTI, London and Partners, London Business Network and BIS, on behalf of the UK-wide London 2012 Business network. It seeks to provide networking opportunities around international sports events, creating opportunities for UK companies to make international business connections.
