Emerging terribly damaged by war only 30 years ago, Vietnam has made a remarkable recovery. After a decade of strong economic growth and poverty reduction, it is on course to become a middle-income country by 2012. DFID has been providing aid to Vietnam since 1992 and is now its second largest donor of grant aid.
