The Coalition agreement has a strong focus on transparency of what government departments spend. The aim is to help to deliver better value for money in public spending. The Government is not only releasing its own data, but also encouraging businesses and non-profit organisations to build innovative applications and websites which help people to visualise government activities more clearly.
In 2010, the Prime Minister established the Public Sector Transparency Board, which is driving forward the Government’s transparency agenda, making it a core part of all government business and ensuring that all Whitehall departments meet the new tight deadlines set for releasing key public datasets.
One year on, DFID has published the following data (in line with all central Government departments in the UK) to enable greater scrutiny:
All DFID contracts are now published on Contracts Finder website and on the DFID Portal.
