Conflict Adviser – Conflict Institutions Team

£45,381 – £55,188

This is an exciting opportunity to shape cutting-edge early recovery and peacebuilding policy, influence DFID, the UK government and the international system, and to improve the international system's impact in countries emerging from conflict

In addition to the above vacancy we are looking for a number of Senior Conflict Advisers (£55,814 – £66,873) and Conflict Advisers (£45,381 – £55,188) to fill posts that we anticipate arising over the next two years.

Conflict is the major impediment to the reduction of poverty – setting back economic development, leading to loss of life and destruction of assets and exacerbating lack of trust between communities. Within this context, we work to analyse, prevent and manage conflict, focussing on specific areas like disarmament, demobilisation, security reform, small arms and light weapons and arms export control. You’ll join us to provide strategic leadership to these activities. So you must offer an in depth understanding of global, regional and local conflict trends and their implications, the international systems and its responses to conflict, and significant socio-political analysis skills. You’ll also need at least five years experience in a developing country, knowledge of aid effectiveness and outstanding communication negotiating and influencing skills.

These are permanent and pensionable Home Civil Service posts and are subject to a ten month probationary period. DFID is an equal opportunities employer. Applications are welcomed from all parts of the community and we actively encourage interest from women, ethnic minority groups, those with a disability and those from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities. Selection is on merit. Candidates should be UK nationals, nationals of a member state of the European Economic Area (EEA), Swiss or Turkish Nationals or Commonwealth citizens with the right to work in the UK.
