The campaign group ONE's 2009 DATA Report published today identifies the UK as being on track to deliver its promise on aid to sub-Saharan Africa and to become the first G8 country to reach the UN target of spending 0.7% of national income on overseas aid by 2013.
International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander said:
“While other countries have been criticised in this report, I am pleased that the UK has been acknowledged as 'on target to be the first G8 country to meet the UN goal of 0.7%'.
“The report also highlights Gordon Brown's 'vital role in ensuring that the G20 give focus to Africa and the poorest countries in their response to the global financial crisis'."
