The Guardian Achievements in International Development Award celebrates the work of individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to alleviating poverty in the developing world. DFID is funding this award as part of its work to build UK public support for development by raising awareness among people and engaging them about global poverty and international development. It is being run alongside a competition to encourage journalism about development issues, run by The Guardian and Marie Stopes International, also co-funded by DFID.
Nominations for the award must be made by 24 July, via the Guardian’s website, and can be for an individual of any nationality based anywhere in the world. The judges will include a senior DFID manager, leading international development academics, the Head of the BBC World Service Trust, and the Editor of The Guardian. They will select a short-list of the five best nominations, looking for individuals who have made a substantial and sustainable impact on poverty reduction and demonstrated inspirational leadership.
