Eleven GSP teachers from a mix of rural and urban schools in Enugu State have just completed a residential two week course in global education and partnerships at the Institute of Education, University of Nigeria.
Supported by Cambridge Education Foundation, the course is the first of its kind in Nigeria which covers subjects like global trends in teaching and learning, the global dimension and education, ICT, research and report writing.
The Certificate in Global Education and Partnerships aims to support and develop creative ideas that motivate and inspire lifelong learning. Ekere Vero agrees, “The training has opened my eyes to the relevance of self development...”
Reflection on global education in the curriculum is another key aim of the course. Christopher Omeife found that “the training is fantastic as it touches the main facets of Global School Partnerships: justice, equity, diversity…”
Lecturers will continue to provide support through email, telephone, correspondence and visits, as participating teachers now embark on a period of personal study, which will culminate in presenting a seminar, action research and a written report.
The course has already proved to be invaluable to participants, as Chinyere Eze explains, “This training has really broadened my knowledge on global issues. It has also helped me in the area of self development, in fact I am better equipped for the challenges ahead both in the classroom and the partnership.”
